See it On The Big Screen

Barbie. Oppenheimer. The buzz around these two films, which happen to release on the same day - I must say cinema is coming back. My recent watch in the cinemas have been Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which blew my mind, Medusa Deluxe, Chevalier, Return to Seoul, The Little Mermaid and so much more. This summer is full of amazing movies to see on the big screen and everyone should enjoy watching films in the cinema, not just when a blockbuster comes out. Here are my tips & tricks for cheap tickets and finding out new things to watch.

Before doing anything, ask yourself what type of films you want to see or if you’re up for anything.
Here are my 4 tips:

  • Change The Channel. Not seeing the films or shows you want, change the channel (or streaming service). Check out other places you probably wouldn’t use, examples include Youtube (a lot of great indie web series and short films), Shudder, The Criterion Channel ect. Also stay up to date on sites like Deadline, Screendaily, Letterboxd, Variety or just Film Updates on Twitter.
  • Subscribe to newsletters! Literally any about art, cinemas, film blogs, or people creating a change in the film industry. Be selective if you don’t want to be spammed.
  • Support your local area and go to independent cinemas. Check out the local art and cultural spaces. What’s On, do they have screenings on? This also helps bring more money to the local area and community, and even more opportunities. Examples: The Broadway in Nottingham. Genesis Cinema in East London, The Lexi Cinema in North London, The Garden Cinema in Covent Garden, and more.
  • Get a membership with a cinema. All have different benefits, find which one is best for you. Cinemas that offer memberships: Odeon (Odeon Limitless), Picturehouse (various), Curzon (various), Vue (various), Cineworld (Cineworld Unlimited Membership), and independent cinemas have memberships too - just ask or check online. Memberships for Art house lovers (aka me)MUBI GO & Everyman (if you a bad b). Having a MUBI GO membership, I have saved so much getting to go to different cinemas every week.
Extra: Look out for National Cinema Day where tickets are cheap all day at supporting cinemas!
